About Carey Monroe:
Carey Monroe is a Small Business Management Coordinator at the Great Plains Business Development Center. She works with small businesses owners to help them thrive in the Lawton Fort Sill Community and is responsible for overseeing the Southwest Oklahoma Women’s Business Summit as well as the 580 Pitch Competition. Carey holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Cameron University and is currently pursuing her MBA. As a self-taught graphic designer and marketing specialist, Carey won awards for her work and continues to use that experience to inform her coaching practices. Carey has held positions in the marketing departments at Western Oklahoma State College and City National Bank where she honed her skills in marketing strategy, graphic design, brand management, and community engagement. Before becoming a business coach at Great Plains, Carey was the Director of Events Management at Cameron University where she was responsible for planning and executing events such as the CU Holiday Tree Lighting and CU’s annual Commencement Ceremony.
A long-time community advocate, Carey serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Museum of Great Plains, Vice Chairman of the Young Professionals of Lawton Board, and is a founding trustee of the Lawton Youth Sports Authority. Carey is also a member of the Lawton Business Women and volunteers in a variety of other ways in the Lawton community.
Carey’s superpower is connecting – connecting people with each other and with resources. She is a firm believer that the best way to love where you live is to invest in your community. Equity of access, community development, and advocacy are all foundational values for Carey and she seeks to meet people where they are and help them find what they need to be successful.
Outside of family, work, and school, Carey is currently focusing her energy and attention on getting Oklahoma firefighters access to free annual comprehensive cancer screenings. Carey’s husband, David is a firefighter in Altus, OK and they live in Lawton, OK with their two children.
